Not nearly hard enough, by the way. If we're redoing Avignon it's past time to pull out the oldies: Excommunication! Sieges! Interdicts! Peasants sacking palaces! The Voie de Fait!

I do think online re-formations (heh) of the Guelphs and Ghibellines would be particulalry cursed though.

The surveillance center funding is buried in Asheville city council's consent agenda (it's item d) and phrased to obscure what it is.

Those are both common tactics they use to hide unpopular measures like this.

The latest move comes as even plenty of local governments, under pressure due to ICE's frequent use of local poloce surveillance networks, are actually canceling contracts with the same creepy companies used here, like Flock.

But not Asheville city hall. #avlnews #avlgov

This is not popular with the general public. City hall's in the middle of a massive budget crisis and even well-heeled establishment pols are using words like "slaughter" to describe what they're doing to services. Dismantling surveillance was a common demand at the Feb budget input session...

This was quickly used to just target the poor and anyone the cops didn't like. APD's notorious drone program was used to pursue the homeless and surveil @firestorm.coop's new location opening. Vegan treats and queer sci-fi were clearly such public threats. #avlgov #avlnews
