The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT.

From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't.

A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:

But Yusuf said on Sky it's a non story. So that's okay then.

What was it Tice was saying about Angela Rayner and stamp duty?

Rayner resigned for less. Tice has to go.

For much less... 😔

Will Dan Hodges be reporting this?

From 10 August 2018 to 9 August 2021. Quidnet was a REIT: an investment fund that invests in real estate.

Just as an employer is required to withhold PAYE tax from wages, a REIT is required to withhold 20% income tax (20%) from its dividends, and pay it to HMRC.

Combining stock exchange announcements and Companies House reporting shows that Quidnet paid around £600,000 in REIT dividends to Mr Tice and his offshore trust.

Great work Dan! Let's see how the media responds and compare it to how they responded to Rayner's mistake.

And will UK media be all over this?

I doubt it

Surprise, surprise, tice’s company doesn’t pay taxes due knowing full well that HMRC will in all probability never investigate (& if they ever did he’d cry political harassment). This may force their hand but I wouldn’t hold my breath they’ll actually do anything about it.

There should be an HMRC team that full time investigates MPs tax affairs.

And the parties should have staff helping MPs keep their finances straight.

This is a basic level of honesty that we should be able to rely on for a group of 650 people running the country.

This does feel like it falls more into the Angela Rayner tax error (although imho, hers was more a more obscure error). Will be interested to see how the media treat it and how Reform differentiate it.

Ha. I think we know it’ll be treated very differently to Rayner’s situation.

If you buy a home you're expected to know how to get tax right. But you could just be someone who needs a home and hasn't had legal training in the tax implications.

If you operate a REIT and you are incompetent, that's 100% on you.

Surely this is much more straightforward a case than Rayner’s was? Paying tax on dividend payouts is increasing stuff. I know @danneidle.bsky.social has to be careful with what he says, but this stinks.

Absolutely no surprise this has happened and no doubt it’ll be an ‘honest mistake’! but it’s the hypocrisy. He claims it’s a non story yet Angela Rayner’s much smaller tax issue made her position untenable and she was the spawn of the devil. MSM should be all over this

Will Chris Mason of the BBC talk about it incessantly for the next month.

Excellent work Dan. Mr Tice’s behaviour as an MP leaves much to be desired and so it is no surprise that his past is filled “mistakes” like this

It's worse than I thought. Not just underpaying company taxes but specifically not paying tax on his own earnings! I wonder if Reform UK ltd pays dividends to it's directors?

Great work, Dan. It's a source of shame that he's my MP.
