I don't want you to separate me and my art. Art. Artist. Same dude. If I ever milkshake duck on y'all & start saying some wild ass hateful shit, please, for the love of God, throw out my books. Put my DVDs in the microwave just to be sure. I won't be the guy who wrote them anymore. Art IS the artist

I'll just turn up and empty your games room. Now behave your self or those lovely nurgle models, rpg books and the rest of it, will go to people who can remain human.

I don't know why everyone goes (deservedly) for JKR when Orson Scott Card is still around, the fact that the same person that wrote Enders Game and especially Speaker For The Dead, turned out to be a bigot and a mega do****, is really sad and I will never reread his stuff.

I've been talking about him a lot lately. His work meant a lot to me when I was a kid, but as he grew openly hateful, we left him behind. And do NOT miss him.

C. Robert Cargill you are never going to milkshake duck. Not a chance in this or any world. I’d bet my life on that. You’re a true good one and it shines in everything you do.

It really was a benefit learning of you from two of the silliest dudes on the internet beforehand.

All new celebs should do a mandatory podcast tour with silly guys. They will have 5 minimum appearances to prove they're regular, decent people. If not, they get shunned from their respective circles.

Oh which appearance was that?

That's interesting because I've got a mental thing, that puts impossibly high standards into my head. What if, just on chance, one of the artists I like treads over a simple, single line I have. Does that mean I throw out everything? Do I get to experience any of the joy I throw out again?

I've always thought the "separate the art from the artist" thing was a bs cop out. An artist's art is part of themselves. By continuing to indulge their art, you're showing that the darkness of their soul isn't a deal breaker for you.

Please don’t make me turf my Doc Strange blu ray, it’s legit one of my fave MCU films

Question though - if you were a different guy when you made those things, should we blame those things? Or reject them? I understand rejecting you in that scenario. I’m less sure about the great movie with progressive values you made 10 or 20 years ago.

We can credit all those to Jessica. Since I’ll be adopting her as a wife if Cargill Milkshake Ducks.

It sucks because a lot, if not most of the best art is made by horrible people

And there are so many we don’t know about. Is ignorance complicity?

Neil Gaiman for example. Does what he did negate the positive awareness he brought to the lgbtq community in the 90’s?

Or when a comic book saves a lonely kids life, is who wrote it important?

Earnest question.

Love you, man, but I'm with Nick Cave: "I don’t think we can separate the art from the artist...we can look at a piece of art as the transformed or redeemed aspect of an artist, and marvel at the miraculous journey that the work of art has taken to arrive at the better part of the artist’s nature."

Another Cargill post; another internetty term to learn. The pop-culture-world-I-try-to-avoid education continues. 👍

I'll opt for throwing your works at you until you come to your senses, thank you very much.

That sounds like a terrible mental health regimen, but it might be worth a try or two.

Fortunately, with you, I don't ever see that being an issue. You come off as a genuine decent person. You also happen to co-host a fantastic podcast where that personality comes through so I'm more than happy to keep your work.. lol. Now all i need to do is get my Black Phone 2 Blu-ray signed. :P

I would never do that to my microwave.

People fall down. We can kick them, or we can seek to understand them and try to lift them back up. Unless the intent is cruelty, I rather not judge so harshly as to deny someone redemption. Art is the mirror, not the subject. It’s no longer yours when given.

That said, boycotting is a choice based on moral boundaries, and those also move. If you turned into an asshole, I wouldn’t condemn your contributions of the past. I’d seek to understand your journey. Sometimes grace is humanity, and an opportunity, to improve us all. But I can condemn your actions.

I don't see how people can separate the art from the artist. I've never been able to do it even when I was young. My sharpie marker was on fire when I was a teenager. PERMANENT.🖤

I don’t, and that’s given me a tiny ray of hope for my mental health.

It’s honestly insane to me that people are still willing to give JKR the benefit of the doubt because they loved the Harry Potter books and movies as kids and teenagers.

They usually say “Tell me ONE thing she said that was transphobic!” And then move the goalposts every time you give any example.

Whenever I find out that something I like was created by an awful person, I stop talking about said thing.

It’s not that hard.

I'm a bit old for Harry Potter, I remember my younger brother being a big fan and because we generally share taste in books I gave them a try when there were like 3 books published and it found them mid to bad. I remember for years loosing respect for people whenever they praised them.

So I should burn my copy of Dreams & Shadows when you finally admit Last Action Hero is a great film?

I’m not sure of which recent news item this might be referencing, but I’m struggling with this view myself. There are artists who are on the wrong side of the Israel/Gaza issue, former friends who voted for Trump, and I wonder if I should have cut them out, and I want to believe ppl are redeemable
