Not good.

“.. if payments accompanying 20% of the world’s oil and gas can move through a digital pipe that the US Treasury cannot see, then America’s dominance of global finance has effectively been handed an expiry date.”

Besides aiding China, Trump and his family did everything to make crypto payments known to everyone who didn't know before of it.

Trump's "excursion" into Iran might be a major factor in the downfall of the US. Hsitory will not look kindly on this.

Maybe EzPass should pitch their solution. Stick a transponder on the tanker windshield. Install some sensors over designated lanes. Add a credit card and go. Maybe do some congestion pricing too?

I mean, there can be conversations for days about what the treasury was already “not seeing” concerning huge money transfers for ANYTHING let alone oil, this is just one corner of the already f’d up int’l fincl clandestine sys that exists on paper, but very selectively in practice, if at all.

Maybe, but a far greater problem than lost American seignorage (which has been worth about $1 trillion in all history) is if Iran taxes oil and generates a flow of $50B to $100/B annually to fund terror.

During Trump's second term our goodwill has been devalued while our ill will has soared. Masterful, as the Republican Party in Congress watches.

Republicans in Congress are sure handing their kids and grandkids a long list of things to fix. Thanks, Dad, Mom, Grandpa and Grandma! Amazing inaction!

It will be the China and the Asian blocks cities having that argument.

The most valuable asset any company, person or country is their integrity, honesty and goodwill.

Trump has destroyed Americas goodwill and once it’s gone it will be a long time or never before we get it back.

Americans and America will end of being poorer.

Is this bad?

"The Cross-border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) is a Chinese payment system for clearing and settlement services... and trade...

CIPS is among the responses to sanctions imposed by the United States, which commentators view as contributing to de-dollarization."

I have incredible respect for your work, so take this question with the sincerity in which it is posed. The fix for this to return to fiscal policy that stabilizes the dollar is it not? That's the draw to the "petrodollar."
2
0
33
Yes, stabilizing fiscal policy is key to upholding the dollar’s value, which underpins the petrodollar system’s global draw.

Back in the 70's we bought more oil and dollars were logically recycled into U.S. Treasuries. Not true anymore.

I think the world now sees the US as irrational and even if the next president returned things to normal there’s no reason to think the one after that won’t be another Trump. We have no credibility and so other countries will still continue to diversify away from the dollar.

“Dark fleet” tankers (1,300+ vessels) ALREADY use AIS spoofing, ship-to-ship transfers, and fake documents to ship ~7.8M metric tons of crude annually, generating billions—e.g., Iran’s oil sales fund IRGC despite OFAC blocks.

Russia avoids sanction by accepting yuan, so does Iran.

China continues purchasing and stockpiling precious metals, strategic materials, petroleum. As the U$D continues to erode it's position as primary global reserve currency, China economic stability becomes increasingly appealing to the global markets.

Trump has destroyed (not is destroying) the country. Massive ballooning debt, unraveling the petro-dollar, underming U.S. hegemony and dollar reserve status, disdain for the security alliances that made the post-WW-II order (& US prosperity) possible. Sadly, not likely fixable. Hopeful? Not really.
