People who've never been poor don't get this. "Just learn to budget!" fuck off. I've had good jobs where saving was easy, & even with shitty jobs i could save *some*. These days, on government disability, not only can i *not* save anything, but every irregular expense sets me a little further back.

And everything is so much more expensive when you can’t afford to buy in bulk, or to spring for the version of the Big Purchase that will actually last.

I spent a (thankfully brief) period of my life on assistance. I had many years after that in minimum wage jobs where I could only save a little. On minimum wage if I was careful I could get the better pair of winter boots once every 3 years instead of the cheap shitty ones every year. A luxury.

The idea that somehow a budget can be made to function when the income column is less than the expenses column is wild.

The cheques come once a month, towards the end of the month, & usually by the tenth it's more than half gone already. Everything keeps getting more expensive. I just looked & i have 3 mortgage payments this month because they happen every week

i hate to whine about poverty because i "own a house" but technically, the BANK owns my house. I'm just renting from the bank. All the maintenance is up to me. I'm very lucky cuz i was able to buy b4 housing prices really went bonkers, but i used all of my "retirement" savings on the down payment...

There needs to be a whole lesson on why WEEKLY anything (paycheques, rent) is actually better for budgeting that once or twice a month.

The time I was able to save the most was when I had weekly regular contract cheques. I didn’t overspend in whatever version of time-blindness is related to funds
