What do you think about decaying murals? Should they be touched up or left alone?

paint on materials like brick or concrete is just...a bad match, it locks in moisture and the paint/face comes off in chunks.

Impermanence may be the point but it bothers me when the materials battle each other. And then when things are retouched it’s a clear difference in quality

The substrate is being obliterated by locked in moisture bc of the choice of paint. It!!!! Sigh. It’s not gonna stick around like a mosaic would.

I misread that as mutuals and was Intrigued by what it could mean but then I read it properly and I'm still intrigued but I understand better.

I think it depends, if restoring them is doable and brings them to life absolutely sure. However if they're so far gone and just a tattered eyesore?

It makes me sad tho!!! Dunno what to do bc there’s been an attempt at touch ups.

There are murals under all these bridges i saw today and they’re under loved. A real repair would look like ….getting rid of huge chunks that are threatening to crumble anyway.

Let them decay if there a plan to open up that space for a new one, I guess? Otherwise yeah touch them up.
