I'm Bob. This is my semi-SFW feed of bad jokes, geeky observations, random weirdness, and politics. Center-to-further-left. Pretty darned gay. He/Him. 📍Portland, Oregon, United States
There is a fundamental airport culture incompatibility between people who seek out a sparsely-occupied gate to get away from noise, and those who seek it out so they can more-politely make a loud phone call.
The proliferation of AI-generated images, and the overuse of sans-serif fonts, have doubly affected struggling artists named "Al", who can't get their work noticed because nobody wants to see Al-generated "art" in their feeds.
again I cannot say that I'd do any better under sudden and extreme pressure. This is just advice on how to get even better evidence going forward if you can, because quite sadly, we're going to need it. /Fin
Until holding the phone up becomes a natural reflex. C. Be sure your phone is set to always upload pics/vids to the cloud. CBP/ICE has been known to seize people's phones simply because they were recording. Again, none of this is to criticize the amazing work these brave people are doing, and... /5
of these clips of intense interactions have the phone pointing down to the ground at critical moments as - quite understandably - the camera operator is moving themselves out of the way of harm. But try practicing with your friends/family, kick a soccer ball around while recording your group... /4
of the activity on the ground - allowing you to stay focused on the main action you see, but also capture what CPB/ICE are doing to others on the sidelines, where they are taking away people and evidence. B. Practice holding the phone and tracking action even as you are running away - so many... /3
I don't know if I could maintain composure in such rough, rapidly unfolding situations like in MN yesterday. But as a professional videographer, I do have some armchair advice. A. When recording, try to hold your phone in portrait/landscape (wide) orientation. This will show much more... /2
Folks, I'm asking for an amplification and spread of this thread (if you agree with it). I'm a small account, and while I've been to protests I've never been confronted with direct engagement like the brave people in MN who are literally putting their lives on the line... /1
Stay alert, Portlanders. ICE may be posing as utility workers. Do not open your door for someone dressed as PGE (or NW Natural, reported last week) unless you have an existing service appointment. If they insist they are legit, make them wait (don't open door) until you call the utility to confirm.
The @bsky.app "Following" feed is broken for me and a lot of people this morning, skipping from a few hours to 13 days ago: bsky.app/search?q=13+days (And on my biz acct the feed isn't in chronological order, but has content between now and 13 days ago. Weird.) Click "latest" after following link.
Mayor Jacob Frey: "They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullshit."
Or just admit that even purely text-based A.I. is not capable of reliably doing relatively simple tasks at scale, like "track down this person's contact info and ask them a question", a fundamental skill used by virtually every business. /End
This is a complete failure of imagination. If A.I. is so great, useful, and transformative, then just direct a chatbot to locate the contact info for every piece of artwork you want to scrape, and engage in a conversation with the artist, to secure the artist's permission. No labor required. 1/
Trumpers have a howling void of angry insecurity where a soul should be. Unchecked power tastes like ashes in their mouth because they thought when they got it everyone would be forced to like and admire them even though they’re irredeemable assholes. But people still treat them like assholes.
Look, I get that many scientists and engineers are researching improved battery chemistries with greater energy density. But why can't we just run our cars on the highest-capacity energy storage devices already devised: microwave burritos?
