Closing down roundabouts in order to install raised multi-use path crossings? Yep, my city/burb is doing just that.

"Start them young, and it becomes a lifelong habit. The immense freedom cycling offers is incredible. We make about 90% of trips by bike nowadays. A good cargo bike and an electric 'family-share bike' for longer trips—or the teen heading out in the dark—definitely help."

Comments of the Fietsersbond (Cyclists’ Union): “Older people in the Netherlands cycle to an increasing age and also more distance than ever. Cycling is a healthy and social activity that makes people happy. The downside is the number of casualties which is expected to increase further.” (3/4)

52 years ago today, 8 April 1974, experimental road closures were introduced in De Beauvoir Town.

They were later made permanent, creating Hackney’s first low traffic neighbourhood: safer streets to travel through, & space for families & children to play

If designed inclusively, cycling infrastructure offers independent mobility to those with physical impairments who are left behind by car dependence.

For many people housebound or reliant on others for transport, two—or three—wheeled travel isn’t just a form of movement, it’s a form of empowerment.

If you want kids to be able to cycle to school, give them safe, protected cycle tracks - and somewhere secure to park when they arrive.

This is what that looks like in practice.

Instead of being on vacation or whatever, Democrats should be on the steps of the Capitol calling for Trump's immediate impeachment. Doesn't matter that they need a handful of Republicans to join them. Just make a stink, for god's sake.

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

I always like showing a real ride: one where I go from A to B for a reason. This time I filmed a ride to a hospital in Utrecht last February—a straightforward trip, quite typical for the Netherlands. Come along for the relaxing journey.
