If anything it's gone down at least according to most online people. Back in, say, 2006, 1g per lb bodyweight was considered the normal starting point recommendation and go up from there.

No I don't think that's a popular recommendation, especially for people who would be eating <70g per day. I would say it's normal to recommend around 150g, with some adjustments for bodyweight that don't scale linearly (around 2g per kg lbm for a fairly large man)
