No I don't think that's a popular recommendation, especially for people who would be eating <70g per day. I would say it's normal to recommend around 150g, with some adjustments for bodyweight that don't scale linearly (around 2g per kg lbm for a fairly large man)

(I also don't follow the culture anywhere near as much as I did in 2006-2012 so I may be wrong.

I imagine there's variation around recommendations, but back then 1-2g per lb bw was common. That's a pretty absurdly high upper bound but many people were aiming for it. Like 360g protein per day for a 180lb man is pretty mad. It's like ~1400 calories (calorie recommendations are also lower now)
