I’ve never seen these two shots side by side, it’s remarkable how drab and grey Rise of Skywalker is by comparison. Does it look like the end of a saga all about hope? It’s gloomy, literally grubbing around in the dirt like a dog burying its shit at the beach

The memes have been beautiful though. 😆

Disney removed the heart from Star Wars, skipped over the storyline, killed off the heroes - “cannon” my butt.

1. That's not how "Canon" is spelled.

2. That's not how the shot looks.

There are no redeeming qualities to any of the sequel trilogy films.

Because those sequels are terrible.
Period.

Most modern movies are washed out like this.

Yes and none of the rest of them look much better

And in the oughts a lot of them were blue or green. Aesthetics change

And this is not one of them. OP posted a desaturade version, and the Sequels all look absolutely beautiful. Even the haters agree with that 🤷

Because whoever made that purposefully desaturated the shot from TRoS.

And you fell for it because it confirmed your bias.

People need to stop being so weird about the ST, it's the same shit from the PT hate just remixed and recycled. It rhymes.

Well that’s certainly one opinion

Yall will make any excuse to hate the squeals. There are legitimate problems with the sequels but this is just so nitpicky. 🙄

Seems well argued that the ending was a gloomy dose of nostalgia set in the same location that was meant to be a point of departure

You don't need to agree with the content but it's hardly a nut pick

I like two thirds of the sequels

It's not even nitpicky, it's made up. The screenshot is altered, and the claim that the last shot is of the farm is false. The last shot is Rey and BB8 looking out on the sunset. bsky.app/profile/timdmackey.bsky.social/post/3mjaqnhu2rs2x

Are we just creating an alternate history now? 🤷🏻‍♂️
➀ The reason you've never seen these two shots side by side like this is because whoever made this image purposely desaturated the Rise of Skywalker scene.
② The final shot of the film is Rey and BB8 looking out on the binary sunset, mirroring Luke.

Bingo. Not sure if the OP is just caught up in all the online nonsense or is playing games for fake internet points.

The saga starts with the camera looking with Luke away from the farm, directing us too to look into the horizon, dream of something better. And then it ends with the camera looking back at the farm. No future, only nostalgia

Rey buries Luke’s lightsaber in a pit in the desert, next to this place he hated and couldn’t wait to get away from, where his family was burned alive. A part of him will remain here forever now

I will say this for it: it's Rey choosing the life of a farmer, a noble profession in the eyes of the samurai, whom the Jedi were based on.

That said, please see my 97 hour YouTube essay about everything wrong with the sequel trilogy.

I think we can all agree the problem is "I'm a Skywalker" or whatever stupid shit the line was in a movie that made zero sense in a trilogy that sucked ass so bad. Lighting wasn't going to save that disaster.

I think it’s just the time of day that’s affecting it.

But that’s at the discretion of the director. “JJ Abrams doesn’t know about golden hour” doesn’t excuse the movie looking bad

My my people do get pissy when you mess with their Star Wars, see below

Kinda makes sense though, because the series was partly about the old "new hope" ebbing as the new "new hope" flowed forth to fill the void.

I like all the clouds on Tattooine, a planet so horribly dry that "moisture farming" was a thing.
