If you look at the detail in the article, it's not necessarily that people are fighting them, they're just collapsing under the weight of their own incompetence and mis-placed self-belief

Yes, absolutely, particularly people in the areas in which they're being proposed.
It does rather seem that the catastrophic local environmental impacts of the existing ones so hopefully local planners and political figures will at least realise they're a political poison chalice and block them

I can't remember which issue it was, but in his podcast, Ed Zitron was basically talking about how there's a lot of talks about data centers going on, but not enough actual building.
And a part of whatever is being built, it's often "one steel beam in the ground".

Basically the plans were blatantly fantastical from the start. You can't build a megawatt data center in a year. Not to mention that you'd need this megawatt (and extra).
