I hope liberal and left-wing Americans defeat Trump and all he stands for, but if they want to put America's relationship with the world on a more sustainably realistic basis they need to stop viewing every geopolitical crisis or conflict as a mere externalisation of domestic American culture wars

And in order to do anything in the world, we have to defeat Trump & his party in a lasting way, which can only be done by America-centric domestic politics. The median voter just doesn't much care about foreign policy unless it affects them.

Sorry kid. Mushroom Dick is not the one with the emperors new clothes, America is. There's no turning back. You have been exposed on the world's stage.

At a time when American politics is so viciously polarised what I find most striking is how far all sides of America's political life remain prone to strategic solipsism that distorts their perception of what is happening in the wider world

If anything that tendency has only accelerated, as demonstrated by how the American politics junkies on this site don't even bother with any pretenses anymore as to why they are consuming and amplifying every claim favoring Iran regardless of plausibility or source credibility

It's a staggeringly parochial society in a lot of ways. For all of its multiculturalism it's unable to engage the rest of the world on anything but it's own terms.

Is there any civilisation except of the US? 🤷‍♂️
Only Krauts, French wines, and some mullahs!

Btw, do you remember the big beautiful peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Albania? 😂

Liberal America is as much to do with Trump as the right wing zealots who voted for him. Their myopic political mindset and their fixation with marginal issue created a space for the fringes. Their stay stay at home and third party protests were basically a vote for Trump.
