This is one of 2025's best movies. But you won't get to see it compete at the Oscars.

It's called Nobody, and it earned almost $250 million on a $10< million budget. A future is coming for small, risky films — with or without the Oscars. We explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-film-that-should-be-nominated

I really desperately want to watch it, unfortunately it seems hard to find in the west. I'm glad to see such a wonderful success story. Beautiful animation and a lovely insight into other cultures mythology.

Is an English sub/dub available, and if so, where?

Whaaaat I’ve never heard about this film but I’m immediately looking into it. It’s beautiful and I’m such a sucker for “Into the West” nods.

It’s such a shame movies like this don’t have more widespread showings. I would have absolutely seen this if it was showing in a theater near us!

Update: Watched this tonight with my husband. I got really emotional & my husband cried.

This movie is downright gorgeous! My husband’s only wish is that his attention wasn’t divided between the beautiful art on screen & the subtitles (which were fast for him at times). It deserves more attention!

Wai- I recognize that art style. Like the mobile game? What came first, the game or the movie? I played the game for a bit but set it aside because I felt like I had too many on my plate. I essentially stopped so I could focus more on Dislyte. And to not get into trouble at work by playing games..

it's almost like people are sick of cookie-cutter franchise bait. Like, I enjoy that stuff just fine, but when it's so expensive to go out to the movies anymore, I'd rather just watch it on my couch or at my computer. I'll only go to the theaters for really special, unique stuff anymore.

And folks putting it online has probably ruined its chances of a UK release, which is stupid considering its success should take it further in the world

It was so hard to find a source to watch it here in the states. Managed to find one before it was taken down, and I can definitely echo - incredibly good movie!

It's beautiful. Watched it on my TV after this article dropped.

"Mind your business."

"Where can I watch it?"

At the link in the article. But it would be cool on the big screen!

We need to stop giving prestige to the snobbish rigged brown-nosingfest that is the Oscars. We as a society will be better for it when we stop pretending it means anything

No one talks more about the Oscars than people who claim not to care about the Oscars.

One of the effects of the oscars being created as a union busting tactic is that there does seem to remain a but of a focus of what and who are rewarded

I'd love to see US audiences confused by an A Journey West adaption.

I appreciate you going so hard for Nobody. It was my favorite film of 2025 and 2025 was a stacked year of incredible works. I managed to catch one of the few screenings in LA. I really hope we can get a blu ray release!

Happy to send a little more attention its way! It's such a great film. And for sure -- a distributor needs to get it physical and streaming releases in the States. It would be a shame if it fell through the cracks here like Dahufa did.

Oh yeah this movie was a big surprise and I really enjoyed it!

Oscars are totally overrated with them picking Up over Fantastic Mr Fox
