I once long ago saved a young girl from drowning. The only reason I knew it was because her friend who was with her was screaming. Otherwise, no-one would have noticed.

And 40 years later, I’d quite categorically say that it’s the most significant and consequential thing I’ve ever done.

I’ve had a good, productive, successful life, but that right there was why I’m here.

I was saved from possibly drowning by someone whose name I never learned, but I think of him with gratitude!

Yes! I nearly drowned in a pool when I was six. Plenty of adults 'watching' and ignoring. I remember being submerged and looking up at the surface and just accepting I would die now. Finally someone's mum pulled me out - and I don't think they even realised they saved a life that day.
