Rural Southerners are not secretly progressive. Please accept that in politics everyone is actually very honest. What you see is what you get.

I've never met a genuine rural southerner progressive who actually believed in that, but I have met many LARPERS who do.

my second-cousin is one (for a given definition of 'rural') but as a non-larper he is accordingly already 200% into Dems winning everything they can

And like stop wishing these guys into existence. Your allies are in fact more like annoying wine moms and other libs. Sorry you have to hear that, but it's fucking true. You aren't picking up votes for socialism from the backwoods. You need to be working to defeat them.

I'm v. sympathetic to the idea there are large Dem bases in the South, particularly in VA, GA, TX, and NC, that can power flips, but also those people are not the farmer/miner coalitions of the 1920s, they're in more diverse enclaves like Austin, Atlanta, Research Triangle & NVA. Time changes

These are admittedly the exception to the rule but they are around and I’ve known quite a few of them.

Only non-southerners could believe that. Progressive southerners have driven out into those rural areas.
