I'm v. sympathetic to the idea there are large Dem bases in the South, particularly in VA, GA, TX, and NC, that can power flips, but also those people are not the farmer/miner coalitions of the 1920s, they're in more diverse enclaves like Austin, Atlanta, Research Triangle & NVA. Time changes

Miners I at least understand ( it's pretty much just labour and very unpleasant labour at that ) but the history of farmers and socialism is mixed at best because it turns out that farmers are often private land owners.
