Utility classes kinda died in MMOs as the focus shifted from open world exploration and organic group play into instanced dungeon content and solo open world content. But a lot of older games still have them and they can be a lot of fun.

Ah okay, so we're not talking about DPS not being *important* but just not being the sole focus of things.

In which case, hell you can play Final Fantasy 14 *entirely* as crafters and even have some fun story content, if you want!

nah, the crafting classes in XIV are entirely isolated experiences. Utility classes in a lot of older games were a vital part of the game. Like, Marchants in RO were a high defence class that focused on carrying loot and item identification. In EQ, you needed specific classes to fast travel etc.
