Love the stuff, without it it may never be that we'd establish biology, lucky to have any really, so fragile organics, I wonder about things like Opals and whether we have unique minerals, iron pyrites and what not, just because we have biology within our geology, they are 2 sides of the same story.

We might, or aliens that live in environments that don't produce fossils, might still figure out their origins from comparative genetics, but it would be much, much harder, and merely guesses in the face of evil religions that the facts challenge, even with fossils we have not got rid of its evil!
