In honor of Mr. Rogers’ birthday, here’s your regularly scheduled reminder that the quote of his you keep sharing, that in times of crisis we should look for the helpers, was for his audience of children.

We’re adults now. We’re supposed to *be* the helpers.

Damn right. I had a similar post earlier resharing a thread I had written on how to be the helpers, how to start getting involved for people who don't know where to start or aren't sure they want to give up their free time to helping (which isn't selfish! It's just a hurdle of change!).

But still look for the helpers, while being one yourself. You can team up and support each other. It’s easier to sustain if you have community around you.

Yes, this is my thought too. I can do more in concrete ways to help people out now that I’m an adult, but I don’t always know what to do. Joining up with other people who had an idea first is a good way to make a difference.

I always understood it in the context of watching news: "the event is horrible. But look at the people who help and don't focus on the negative you can't do anything about right now."

Like: 9/11 vs the people in that small Newfoundland airport town who took in the passengers of the rerouted planes.

From my side, being a tool, I aim to support rather than replace.

This man deserves his own national holiday. Imagine the world we could have if everyone followed the advice he gave us as children.
