I have an expired passport. That it was issued at all is proof of citizenship. Is that enough?

The law says that it needs to be valid, amongst other things. I don't think the expired one would work. Mine was expired too, so I just ordered a new one. And I recognize that I am privileged to be able to do so. I worry about the folks who need to chose between rent and voting...

If you possibly can, renew it. Don't give them anything to use.

Fyi- renewing your passport is way easier than getting one the first time around. At least it was for me last time.

It's long expired. I'd have to start from scratch.

I suspect the answer to your question will be no.

It would probably be based on the same reason you can't use an expired driver's license to establish identity in places or events that require validation of identity.

I'm familiar with that situation because I tried to use my expired license once..

Please renew it sooner vs later if you can. Can be done online.

I haven't read the legislation, but I imagine they'd want you to renew it. The whole goal is to making voting harder.

Renewing is a little easier than that first passport, but if it miraculously passes, the flood would be overwhelming.

There is another choice though.

2/2 if you still have your birth certificate and the name matches your driver's license, you'd be ok.

If you have both a certified marriage license and a birth certificate to show how you are the same person as your ID, also ok.

I'm not sure what other name or gender changing paperwork you'd need.

If the name change wasn't because of marriage.

As long as the expired is not over 10 years old you can use it to get a new passport.
Not sure if you can use it to vote.
