Amazon Luna: "Starting April 10, 2026, Amazon Luna will no longer offer game stores, individual game purchases or third-party subscriptions. You’ll still be able to play any games you've already purchased and access your third-party subscription benefits ... until June 10, 2026"

ever since all this cloud gaming stuff started up i immediately went, “oh boy, i wonder how long this’ll last!”. the fact that it lasted this long is surprising to me. it’s probably not bad quality, but there’s literally no demand for it. we were always fine with buying hardware.

IIUC, purchased games were tied to 3rd party stores. All people are losing is the ability to stream them; can still install them locally.

I'm still not over the Ouya shutting down. This is it for us, gamers. I'm running out of 1-ups here.

"Luna Premium Subscription" after June 10 = additional subscription charge, like how they do with ads on prime video?

It’s a little different than prime video cuz before luna was many confusing subscription tiers and they all cost extra and none was included with amazon prime

They changed it so the baseline stuff is included with prime and there’s the extra premium tier. Not like video which added ads later.

What's really wild - this goes for almost all of these storefronts - any one of them could have competed with steam if they'd spend money on actually trying to be a better experience and value than steam, with a unique offering angle (like GoG's focus on old games being playable)

Publisher storefronts - people come for one or two games, but don't come back unless forced by a launcher (worse).

Amazon, Epic, etc. - Generic Steam or Worse for purchasing games, and in Amazon's case also trying to be GamePass+Shadow with worse games.

Microsoft Store? Worst UI of any store.

You'd have to be a Luna-tic to give Amazon money for a gaming subscription to begin with, let alone purchase a game at retail price to stream it.

I actually kinda like the idea for sports games. I only need them for a year anyway, and it saves a ton of memory. If NHL or The Show had been available through Luna I would have bought them.

I wonder how many people actually bought games on Lunar.

Idk but it's definitely garbage that they lose those purchased games unless they install the access them through the EA or Ubisoft launcher. Nice that the purchases don't disappear, but sucks that they don't get a reimbursement or DRM-free copy

This is too bad, the Jackbox subscription is awesome. $5 or something like that would get you every JB game for a month. Oh well.

this exactly. I've subscribed and unsubscribed to this several times when I've had people over.

Don’t have amazon Luna but will people Get refunds for their purchases after it shuts down?
2

No because all the games were linked to another store(gog, epic, Ubisoft) or were drm free anyway

This is why I triple checked that my Luna controller can be a regular bluetooth gamepad before I bought it.

Assumed Luna was already gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got sandwiched between GeForce Now and xCloud.

Big reminder that you do not own video games you simply purchase a license for. Buying on digital storefronts does not guarantee you ownership, and the agreement can be dissolved at any moment. Nothing is final.

does that mean that all the Amazon Games that were created as a library from Twitch Prime cease to exist?

I hope not because a bunch of their bangers like the Metal Slug series were from GOG

I think this only applies to Luna/streaming games. The local libraries for Prime should be safe for a while
0

No they actually explictly separated twitch prime from Luna when they started pushing it.

If it's like the last time and Amazon store failed all the games will become drm free.

Unfortunately Amazon will remain the backend for cloud gaming regardless of who does it

It is, in the sense that AI dipshits are gonna make having real gaming hardware so prohibitively expensive that most of us will only be able to afford this kind of cloud crap.

No refunds, although some games can still be accessed through connected third-party services. My gut instinct is this is a way worse deal than Stadia's full refunds

No? It's just like when the last Amazon store went down, some games were on other stores you connected others became drm free.

Does this affect the free Epic / GOG / Legacy Games code giveaways to subscribers they had every few weeks?

Nah, just your ability to play them through Luna

Nothing in any of those screenshots says anything about the Amazon Gaming app and the games library there. I don't think those games have ever been playable using Luna in a web browser.
