It would be very bad to out a victim of sexual assault without their consent. If they didn’t want to work with Dayen, it would be wrong to publish anything unsubstantiated or without consent.

No doubt. But why announce now, on social media, that they knew about it? To what end?

To make a point about Gallego and other close associates of Swalwell. I read Dayen as basically saying not to give them credit for their statements, because it’s damage control for something they already were aware of.
