Ain't that the truth. What was the first studio you loved destroyed by selling out to a big company? Mine was Gas Powered Games who got bought out and destroyed by Square Enix

The problem is, nobody that controls a studio, large or small, says no to a big enough check.

If someone came to me and said "hey, we like this thing you're doing. I'll buy it off you for <more money than sense>.". I'd sell it.

To be fair, bioware didn't willingly sell out to EA. They joined a private equity fund for financial reasons, and elevation partners sold them to EA.

Private equity remains the root of a lot of evil across dozens of industries

I think you are slightly misremembering that. GPG had partnered with Square Enix in the past, but they were bought out by Wargaming. Those are the World of Tanks guys.

That's not exactly what really happened, after the partnership with square for SC2 square bought out the rights to all their IPs, which is why square did dungeon siege 3, and the custom engines they were using especially for dungeon siege and poached their people. Square really dismantled them
