I think maybe saying that it can't *reliably* result in truthful statements is more accurate. It may stumble upon the truth, but given the way it works, it can't be trusted to provide it. And the things it provides truthful statements about are not evenly distributed with the falsehoods.

or rather, the level of accuracy cannot be a simple percentage that can be "optimized towards". each topic has a different level of ability to get to the truth depending on how much training data exists with that sort of answer, and based on how the question is phrased. and how much is manipulated.
