For me, the test of whether the Football Regulator is genuinely independent is whether it persists in the fiction that MBS is either not the UBO of Newcastle or that, if he is, his status makes him beyond the regulator's authority.

If MBS remains an owner in good standing, then every other person who finds themselves turned away by the new Owners, Directors & Senior Executives Test (ODSE) will know that the real reason they failed is that they weren't geopolitically important enough.
