That’s because footage of three corpses rolling down a hill in a bathtub on wheels would be seen as distressing, Roy

Is this an admission that they'd be disappointed that they couldn't milk creepy, pervy harassment of Nora Batty for lols?

Bad as it was I'd watch it rather than the current crop, Lee Mack ,Rob Brydon and Jimmy Carr for e.g.

And thank god. Last of the Summer Wine was absolutely dire.

Can just imagine a remake starring Tice, Farage and Anderson with Thatcher as Nora Batty.

I got watching an episode not that long ago, and like a lot of old comedies, it was bloody awful. It wasn't exactly edgy, boundary pushing genius. It was boring. The script was plodding and the humour was, at best, seaside resort humour.

There’s quite a thing for stories from writers of successful tv shows to say “it wouldn’t be made today” but how much of that is down to content compared to the writer still being bitter about it being taken off air after many series?

LOTSW was old people back when they were nice.

Bet you none of them would have voted for Brexit

Seymour Utterthwaite would absolutely have voted Brexit

I suspect they wouldn’t make it today is because it was terrible.

Also, not sure there's much of an audience for a show about 3 70+ year olds having to keep working as their pensions don't cover stuff like the electric and food bills

The arc of a 70s comedian’s career is long but it bends towards eventually turning into John Cleese

I would probably watch, to be honest. But still.

I think they could probably make it more easily today. If anything, there's more room for boring shows with no laughs in them than there used to be.

Get Mackenzie Crook involved and you'd have a (ahem) runaway success on your hands.

If he means that it's too sophisticated and highbrow for current BBC commissioning editors, he's probably right.

Up until 2010, they were still making it. There's no pleasing some people.

Headline is probably clickbait. He didn't do too badly in any case, recycling the same jokes for nearly four decades.

They only stopped making it in 2010! Anyway woke-BBC ignores industry insights of 96 year old man at their peril...

So LotSW started in 1973. I wonder if then Arthur Burrows used to whinge that they'd never let him read the agricultural reports now.
