Can I say something?

I think fandom would be a lot better if people stopped digging around in the personal lives of cast and crew and shit.

Unless something ethically/legally bad is happening, its not really anyone's bsns and it feels like gross high-school gossip about ppl we dont fucking KNOW.

Not to mention, it's not even something I even... wish to know. Complete strangers' personal lives are their business; if I know them as a creator and a professional, that is all I wish to know them as. It's immensely strange to wish for more, they are not my — or your, dear reader — friends.

This. This so fucking much.

We shouldn’t be sticking our noses into the private and personal lives of ANYONE, regardless of who they are or how “famous” they may be.

It would be nice if high school gossip wasn’t normalized like this, but a lot of assholes in the world peaked during high school and can’t let go of their shitty teenage behaviors.

Some of them thrive on drama and pointless conflict, after all.

We need to get the parasocial relationships OUT of fandom spaces for a lot of reasons, but this is a big one.

What I’m about to say is circumstantial, so take it with a grain of salt

If someone did something questionable YEARS ago, but they CLEARLY put in the work to change, apologized, etc, don’t keep bringing up their past actions as a gotcha

No one’s above accountability or reflection/improvement

As far as I'm concerned, the human beings whose hard work makes the media happen are an entirely separate entity that I am uninterested in beyond thanking them for their hard work.

That yearning for community that feeds parasocial attachment? Channel that into connecting with fellow fans...

Their personal social media accounts, the goings on happening in their personal and professional lives? Dead air, it doesn't exist.

People are so desperate to perpetuate the toxicity and invasive nature of 90s and early 00s paparazzi and it sucks.

I agree! Unless it’s something very serious or the person shares a personal story, they don’t owe us anything about their personal lives. Voice actors and crew members are human beings, they weren’t created for our entertainment.

Yeah. I don't care about actors or creators that much. I just want to enjoy the media and understand their body work especially if they are actors is not them as a person and I'm not their friend.

Most of the things I know about certain creators, I've basically learned against my will.

Rarely do I go out of my way to look at the background history of certain people unless I'm seeing something people are talking about that seems out of pocket/concerning.

Otherwise why should I care?

Exactly!
Obviously, if they’re doing something that’s endangering other people & fans are trying to make people aware for safety, that’s totally fine & encouraged

But bringing up past dramas/mistakes that have been long since settled and those actions haven’t been repeated since, why bring it up?

Like, unless someone volunteers that information, we shouldn't even be speculating.
We wouldn't want someone doing that to us, why the fuck would we think that's appropriate to do with someone else?
