Consider that the tech bros have been exposed to cyberpunk and thought "Let's make that reality!". We're not necessarily talking about the sharpest tools here...

I wouldn't be opposed to "cyberpunk as reality" if it meant only the aesthetic, if they made clothing and accessories lines.
But not, they saw the worst parts for humanity in it and went "yeah let's do that"
