The timing is super sketchy, especially given his high profile. The accusations could certainly be credible, however I think a healthy dose of respectful skepticism is called for.

Information comes out all the time shortly before elections. It's not a new phenomenon.

In cases of assault, many victims wait to come forward because they don't want to face the backlash, but the closer their abuser comes to power, the more likely they are to want to warn others by coming forward.
