I don't quite understand what it is/what ir offers for MSDOS machines
(I get the original atari 8 bit where it can be used to load software direct from remote host?).
I don't quite understand how it works wirh c64 either

For both MS-DOS and C64, the same core features. networked disk, printer, and network adapter.

C64 version connects via IEC and looks like a kernal device.
MSDOS version connects via RS232 (soon to be parallel and ISA), and a CONFIG.SYS driver provides the devices.

Yes. The current iteration plugs into the ComLynx port.
I've been trying to get the existing Lynx vendors to build them.
