Art can be understood if you:

1. Learn how to "read" a style for what it is.

2. Look at how that language morphs between artists.

3. Be willing to ask "why" and try to answer that question yourself.

I really need to sit down and refine my thoughts on it, but when you can grasp that a drawing of a nose is not a nose, it's just a construct of shapes that tell you it's supposed to be a nose, it all just unlocks in your brain.
