I turned on the alt text reminder here so I will remember to fill it. I sometimes struggle with the right thing to say, but I try to give detail. Alt text is a good way to override the character limit. For those lazy, some alt text suggest what to say, though some extra edits may be appropriate.

Please don't use alt text to override the character limit. That's a huge misuse of alt text.

Sorry. Some people post pictures of text. Sometimes these are snippets from articles. They can copy & paste that text into the alt text field so people can read it. Also, I have a tendency to go into details describing the image. I notice some alt text is too minimal in description.
