the part that you're wrong about is that this money comes from taxpayers. where it comes from is loans from the treasury, the interest of which is actually an asset not a liability

theoretically the USPS provides services at cost and is self funding. it is not part of the budget because it is (theoretically) self funding. political machinations aimed to propgandize americans against the USPS and ultimately destroy it are what causes it to lose money
