Somebody on the r/Omaha Sub-Reddit just asked, "Has anybody ever thought about Omaha being the one place any nation would want to nuke in order to handicap out ability to send a nuke?"

My response follows.

Lived under that E4 B flight path to offutt most of my youth so always stuck in my head how Omaha was a likely first strike target. Recall how inadequate the church social hall seemed as a fall out shelter.

Yep. It's like they just wanted someplace to store people until it was all over.

I grew up in a small town near Omaha. We had "Duck and Cover" drills. You know, under your school desk, head down between your knees so you can more easily kiss your ass goodbye? Yeah, THOSE drills. Kennedy was President, staring down the Ruzzians over Cuba.

So yeah, I've thought about it.

We had a missile site somewhere near my town, out in the hills. It was decommissioned and we'd sneak in and look around. Had some beer parties in the area. Talk always came around to what those buildings were for and how close we lived to an important target.

So yeah, I've thought about it.

Thanks for reposting, Squish. I see that even three reviews before posting still missed a typo. Sigh...
