Us GenXers were basically told to โ€œnot count on itโ€ as in we will be lucky if we get it. Iโ€™ve been investing since after college so I wouldnโ€™t be SOL. So Iโ€™m not shocked Iโ€™m 7 years from collecting and may have to โ€œwaitโ€. Tillโ€ฆ Iโ€™m dead?!

Im gen x too always had a good job but couldn't invest anything. Single Mom with 3 hr round trip commute who lost job in great recession & had to start over. Never mind losing pension 10 yes into job #1 bc of GWs policies. Just screwed if SS is gone will have to work til I die

YOU just need 40 points to qualify. Ask for a SS Status Report from Social Security. Don't want to wait a long time on the phone? You can request it online!
Credits/Points get you to 100% of the SS benefit you earned.
You should check this status report every year to make sure it is correct!

Removing the tax from social security will make the fund run out 2 years earlier.
