I remember going to my library when I was 15 and hesitantly asking the librarian if I could be allowed into the children's section to get just one book.

Ngl, for some reason my brain thought you were talking about Nurse Joy from Pokémon and it only clicked it was just actual Joy halfway through lol. I agree though, do what makes you happy. i just turned 40 this year have been in the fandom since the mid 2000's, and not once have i felt too old, i still enjoy thinsg i did then and my games and PC "era"s from the 90s up to the late 2000's. i still sleep with a Noodle Derg plush, a purple Kobold of my mate and i stay young at heart

Adulthood is not needing to buy a plush animal because your mother (who you still live with because living alone is too expensive and living with housemates is scary) adopted a real animal who sleeps in your bed.
