I like the players getting compensated for their play. But it feels like more pro leagues. Especially CFB and CBB.

It's like watching the start of the opioid epidemic all over again. A bunch of peddlers getting rich and singing the praises of their product as one life after another is destroyed by their own addiction. The snowball is growing.

Will Kevin Hart and the rest become the next Sackler family?

I would actually welcome back the old beer and blue pill commercials...

The beer commercials were mostly fun, sometimes thought-provoking, sometimes brought me to tears or to snorting out loud in glee... but betting ads just say, "Here comes another sucker we can suck dry..."

Honestly, gambling should be treated like other addictions, especially when it comes to advertising. I’m old enough to remember when they stopped cigarette advertising.

The upcoming problem will be the same but for watching news. The "prediction markets" platforms are embedding themselves more and more with news outlets in a "win-win" partnership, the Business News reported recently.

Same with Politics and War news. Everyone wants to bet on everything, 24/7/366. Sick perversion.

I’m a bit young (1992) to know too much about cigarette ads but I feel like gambling ads are worse.

There’s no escaping the ads! Just pushing gambling addiction down our throats!! Bring back the beer commercials!

I've solved that problem by stopping watching most sports. It's actually been healthy as I have a deep suspicion about their sponsorship.

I honestly wish I could stop. I just love sports too much.

Ohio may ban it since it led to two cleveland pitchers getting charged for rigging pitches. Almost like it's a problem...

Agreed wholeheartedly, legalized gambling ruined sports. Now there's possible corruption in various sports making it unapealing

I’d say the possible corruption had been there from long back. It’s just easier to find now.

So I guess that’s a positive?

Amen. It makes me feel empty to watch the faux ‘thrill’ of betting. People’s lives are being ruined. Not to mention sport itself.

I get creeped out by the betting ads that show people wrapped up in the betting, and the enjoyment of watching the sport is really secondary now. The ads are smooshed in at every available opportunity. It’s also really disappointing to see some of the celebrities who are shilling for these companies

Gambling has been around since before sports, so that's not going away. But I wholeheartedly believe that if you want to gamble on sports you should at least have to leave your house, preferably to deal with a man with no neck who will fuck up way more than your credit score if you get outta hand.

Well - I can remember boycotting Neilson products because they pushed infant formula where mothers needed to breastfeed. Loved their Dairy Milk bars.
We may love gambling but if we boycott in game never-ending betting it could cut down the revenue - and you know where that could lead...

They're banning harmless nicotine pouches everywhere, even though they provenly reduce deadly smoking. But betting, run by crime and designed to ruin millions, gets less regulation by the year.

I'd rather have beer ads like they used to have.
If alcohol ads are banned because they're +18yo only then why not Betting ads?!
Why not splash porn at us for that matter? 🤔

Thanks for saying this. The whole presentation of sports is turning toward enticing people to bet on every flipping thing in the game. Way too much discussion of over/under, etc.
It was a bad thing for my state to legalize gambling. Young men especially seem to get sucked in to their detriment.

YouTube started pushing gambling ads at me (and I don’t even watch sport) so I went into Google ad settings and turned off gambling ads in the sensitive ads section.
I rarely watch TV any more.

Sports betting, the down fall of legitimate sports.
Betting site phone calls -
"Hey ref, 3 pi on number xyz for 150k"
"Hey goalie, let in 3 or more for 200k"
"Hey basketball ball player, 4 or less 3 pointers for 100k"
"Hey Ump, call first pitch a strike for 75k"
Who wouldn't want quick easy $$$

betting odds update over all of the narrative-based talking head dribble from the jocks in the booth, because the former is actually useful and informs about the current game state.

Especially discouraging with baseball. Minor leaguers have been banned for betting on sports other than baseball, yet we're constantly pushed to bet while watching games.

It drives me nuts. I sigh in disgust at every single commercial. My kids (ages 16 and 19) didn’t even realize that gambling addiction is a thing. As a society, we will pay for this.

One thing that I DON'T understand is why they show so many betting site commercials on Sportsnet Pacific (aimed at BC).
BC does NOT allow online betting sites besides Playnow (government run site).

Redsox game MLB recorded...three clicks between batters, 14 clicks between innings, and 12 between pitcher changes eliminates the inane banter. That makes the game shorter and much more enjoyable. Sorry OB and the guy in the Middle. I liked Orsillo and Remy and then others like Youkilis.

I agree. If we weren’t in the authoritarian takeover of America’s life, I’d say we need to ban together and protest sports until it’s over. But sports is the only thing I’ve got left to enjoy in this timeline.

I was pretty disappointed when MLB got an official prediction market “partner”. What could possibly go wrong with the ability to bet on every pitch.
