Just look at Air America Radio, it didn't do particularly well.
I think RW media thrive because they're all about sensationalism and shock value. They don't give a SHIT whether they report the truth or not, so they can make their programming more "exciting".

I’ve seen others posting this idea before, but finding local news/newspapers would be something that might appeal to normal people more than randos pontificating on a podcast for hours on end on topics they have no particular knowledge or insight on in the first place.

Very true... but then there's companies like Sinclair Broadcast Group who's been slowly buying up and steering local TV stations to the right for the past couple of decades or so, and local newspapers are constantly forced to cut back which makes their products less worth paying for which ...
