It was David McBride who blew the whistle, triggering the Brereton report & laying the groundwork for Ben Roberts‑Smith’s charges.
The thanks he got was jail, while war criminals roamed free.
It’s about time Roberts-Smith is put away for good, but McBride must be released.

An interesting opinion.

Schultz, then McBride and now Ben Roberts Smith.

All are low order soldiers acting on orders from senior officers and generals that go all the way to the Minister for Defence, the Prime Minister and Governor General.

I'm sure the politicians have their arses covered.

Yes. Free David McBride. Punished for telling the truth.

The narrative that McBride is a war crimes whistleblower is incorrect.

The exposure of war crimes was inadvertent on his part.

McBride is no hero.

The people responsible for putting McBride behind bars should be behind bars, starting with Anthony Albanese

Are you a complete idiot? The PM doesn’t decide who is charged or prosecuted in this country.

Why? He tried to game the system to save the earth criminals

Yeah, it looks like most people on this string aren’t aware of the original motivations for McBride’s leaking. Do a bit of a deeper dive peeps. McBride sought to excuse the soldiers being investigated, not call them to account.

While this #whistleblower case was complex, Australia’s record for whistleblowers has been atrocious:
Successive Attorney General’s need roasting & Albanese too. Too long inactive with real legislation to protect people coming forward.

Absolutely agree...

Overdue for McBride's release.

It’s perverse - this is the kind of thing that will bring the AFP & Labor defeat when it could be victory for international law … no matter how poorly it is applied.

McBride handed over sensitive files in the mistaken belief that they would exonerate these soldiers. The Saturday Paper article (photographed below) as well as a Four Corners documentary highlight this. Facts matter. #Auspol

The circled part of the article reads: Patricia McDonald, SC, for the Crown, made a brief mention…McBride’s leaks were not driven by concern about alleged war crimes in Afghanistan, but rather that 1/x

Yes, he must be.

this is absolutely the opposite of what happened. What are you talking about?

McBride wanted the investigations stopped, he leaked info to journalists to make out a witch hunt was underway.

Delete this idiotic lie.

Crazy inversion of the truth. McBride was NOT one of the good guys. He wanted to cover up the atrocities.

U, of all people, why are u perjuring yourself in favour of a person who was attempting to cover his own arse over his failures.

I thought it was a bit more complex than that. "McBride believed soldiers were being unduly investigated for the war crime of murder for actions that didn't reach that threshold because of political interference to show the public the defence force was taking the incidents seriously."
