We need TENS of thousands of them, those are the new patriots

It’s not even remotely close to being a “new Patriot”. The effective distance of my M2 Browning is 1,800 meters. It can be effective against slow-movers like the prop-driven Shahed, but not against rocket-powered drones or ballistic missiles. Patriot is best vs ballistic missiles.

sadly, no. these systems aren't designed to fight balistic missiles while Patriot are exactly what you need to fight them. Ukraine doesn't have an alternative to Patriot, maybe only the European counterpart SAMP-T but there are few models of it so building and sending them to Ukraine requires time

You do need a "free fire zone" for safety though. .50 BMG goes a _long_ way, especially if fired at an aerial target. (Maximum range is apparently around 4 miles (6.4 km), so range safety for aerial target shooting is something of a problem.)

Can we not name automated war devices that sound like a subsystem of SKYNET?

Great grandson of the Flakturm vs great grandson of the V-1.

No joke...a modern version of a Sopwith Camel might to good work vs Shaheds.

I keep thinking about BAE Hawks… have the scope to keep up as more Gerans & Shaheds go to jets?

/2. A command post from where operators control Sky Sentinel turrets equipped with M2 Browning machine guns and repel Russian drone attacks. Control is carried out using regular Xbox controllers

If someone could ever find a use for the Xbox it would be galaxy brained Ukrainian engineers.

' using regular Xbox controllers ' every time I read something like this from Ukraine I feel proud for the engineers who do this and scoff at the USA armament companies that would spend millions developing something that did exactly the same thing

I wonder why these turrets are not able to automatically aim and fire. Is it that so difficult to aim and hit with algorithms on today's technology? The German Gepard could do it with 50 years old technology very accurately

Xbox controllers running air defense is the most cyberpunk thing that's real. the muscle memory a whole generation built on Halo and Call of Duty is now the actual skill set keeping people alive. nobody wrote that in the design doc.
