Sure, two seconds of user research would have told you this was a stupid idea, but it was much more fun to do it the slow and expensive way that makes everyone hate you

At this point, every company out there expresses their absolute loathing for their customers in different but generally breathtakingly stupid ways.

And the only reason I hate Microslop is because Copilot told me to!

I used autohotkey to convert the copilot key on my new laptop to left mouse click. Very useful since tapping the touchpad for click is hit or miss.

Removing the buttons will be a 2gb Service Pack download that has a 5% chance of bricking your PC.

“We found no ideation. AI Deciders just consider one concept at a time. Design and HCI played no role in deciding what to build. Many AI Deciders overestimate AI’s benefits while underestimating risks”

Oh hey, it's my old prof! This is going in the newsletter for sure

Now do the stupid “Ask Meta” button in WhatsApp.
Meanwhile I can’t get an actually-useful “AI” feature like transcripts for those stupid voice messages.

I just deleted WhatsApp with all the Meta accounts I closed. Easier that way.

I've used it zero times so far and that won't change. It's like having a mood tracker or a voice recorder on my toaster oven: utterly useless and pointless. Also stupid. Did I mention stupid? That last bit is writ large. Sky-writing. STOOOPID.

We're living in the Golden Age of Stupidity.

Most likely, but user research would have made iPhones have a querty keyboard in 2007 😅
Common sense should have told Microslob that this was a stupid idea 🤭

That's not true. Apple did a lot of user research when developing the iPhone. They just didn't ask users to design it for them.

You say that as if you’ve never worked for a large organisation before.

Don’t worry — they will find another way to pursue the enshittification project.

probably just go harder into more ads in everything instead, more subscriptions on things that used to be included

They should add an indicator of how many gallons of fresh water this query will cost.

You underestimate Microsoft's need to learn everything the hard way.

Give me a button to remove Copilot completely. Same for every other bit of tech inserting AI by default.

Better yet, make AI something users can add/turn on if they want, not the default we can't opt out of because even if we're choosing to avoid it, it's still likely feeding off our work/use.

That's what I like on MacOS. One toggle and AI is either a thing on your machine or it isn't.

they didn't even remove the genai itself (as noted in the subtitle of your embed :p), so notepad continues to have a chatgpt integration
