i think a lot about the conditions and contexts within protests and why what worked in the past might not work now. there's a lot of reasons 'significantly larger than the march preceding I Have A Dream' protests ain't budged shit, regardless of what the issue is, and one is media environment.

keeping in mind that both in the 60s and now, the 'good' party still hated protestors either which way, a difference that doesn't get taken into account between then and now is back then you had a handful of TV channels, and a shitload of magazines and local papers, many black owned. compare to now.

this figures in with how media and government pivoted in response to successful protests; instead of covering the protests in order to smear them and their leaders, the strategy chosen was 'just act like it's not there'. the inches at best for the iraq war protests are a good example.
