I'm not gonna fault digital foundry for being into eye candy graphical stuff...I literally bought a new video card when Doom 3 came out back in the day just to be able to play it on higher settings. Same with Crysis.

I love eye candy as well but only when it complements the art, not replaces it

Yeah eye candy is fine. And in complete fairness to the tech, some of it is impressive. The lighting examples in AC Shadows for example. It seems to do a good job at uplifting games that lack ray tracing.

But the way they 'laugh it off' regarding artist intent is gross.

Very true. That is the most disappointing thing, I think: to love the technology above and beyond the artwork itself.

I guess some people still don't fully see video games as an art form.
