Is this Boeing's Starliner project where they didn't want to risk using the same rocket to bring them home? I know a programmer who worked on it haha

Yes. There were successive failures in the control systems of the spacecraft, and they didn’t wish to risk it. I believe they came down on either another starliner or a dragon 2 spacecraft. The issue was not with the launch vehicle, only the Orion Service Module and Capsule itself

It was, to put it lightly, a major fuck up on Boeings part. Also just confirmed, returned on Crew 9, the Freedom spacecraft specifically.
