I've not kept up with state school tuitions, but historically, at least, there are state schools offering quality legal educations at decent rates. And many of them offer practical legal educations, which is not something that comes from a JD at some of the more "prestigious" schools.

My general observation of the Ivies in particular is that they provide excellent networking alternatives for their students if they want to go into government or certain practice areas but produce very few good lawyers.

So in terms of lawyers who will actually be in the field doing things like family law, delinquency law, indigent defense etc.: I honestly think they're better served overall by what should be more affordable programs, not because the clients should settle for less but because expensive programs...
