There's also genetic evidence that indicates the presence of various ancestral populations living on the Eurasian steppe at about the right time, whose likely cultures are plausible candidates for the languages' original speakers. So there's a few different strands of research.

And though these people's descendants arguably founded our civilisations and seemingly called themselves (or ar least their ruling/warrior classes) something like Aryans, and indeed inhabited the region of the Caucasus Mountains, they were definitely not white, so that's a relief!
