IMO This would work better if it said trans instead of gay. Personally I don't know a lot of conservatives who are still explicitly anti-gay, not that I'm trying to minimize LGB struggles.

While some have come to terms with gay people, there’s still a huge contingent which is convinced that Jesus’s mission was to eliminate homosexuality.

It’s still an issue, although their transphobia seems both more intense and more unshakeable than their homophobia.

they switched targets because they are bullies, and trans are the "smaller kid" (sparser target with fewer allies). if they magically managed to make every trans person disappear off the face of the earth tomorrow, you'd be seeing mass modern reenactments of turing's fate without a second wasted.

i don't think you're minimizing LGB struggles by saying this should be trans, but as a trans person while i agree it would be slightly more relevant for the active moment, i don't think it needs changing because the stuff aimed at trans is a stepping stone for putting cisgays back in the crosshairs.
