Elections are meant to be a choice about which way to govern democratically not whether to. It feels dangerous for people who have rejected democracy to have political agency, because it is. We need to solve a paradox. People who want to crash the bus can't be drivers.

This is true in my family. I also think they are the people who need simple answers to things, who don't handle nuance well. Dad was an EE and he likes everything to be perfectly logical. It is also why he simply can't understand life experience different than his own.

Very true. They are just as smart as amy of us but have a different set of morals regarding manipulation and propaganda to gain and retain power. They also work together. We need to find a way to keep our ideal of democracy but stop stabbing each other in the back.
