Methodists. Those are Methodists. Who notoriously just had their own schism over left and right sides of LGBT issues.

And it turned out the right side was small and they were well rid of those lunatics.

I think the conservatives lost but I dont think you could say the left really won, I do not recall more information at this time, overall now an average Methodist congregation is a coin flip of how woke they might be as opposed to how most Baptists are feral fash now

The "God calls us to care for and love the poor/sick/hungry/thirsty/stranger" group won because it let them offload all the asshole Christofascists.

a bunch of conservative congregations left the UMC over it but the UMC that remains is better off for it AFAICT (not my church, to be clear, but it’s the impression i get)

The Lutherans and Presbyterians, who had already split over the issue and so received people who were fed up with the fight dragging out and wanted to go somewhere it was already settled while being theologically/culturally similar

(This applies to people on both sides)

Methodists are mainline Protestants, not evangelicals though, no?

UMC are, but there are evangelical Methodists like the GMC.

They're lumped with the mainline Protestants because they can read, but their origin is actually in the same Great Awakening/Christian revival movement as the rest of the evangelicals.

Correct. They tend to understand that the Bible isn’t to be taking literally, especially the stoning and smiting.

Ehh not really on the evangelical thing.
Yes to the public divorce, similar to the Episcopalians and ACNA before us. Affirming half stayed, nonaffirming half left, no one really wins after a 50 year battle but we consider it a victory because we can finally move on from defending our identities

But if you're in exvangelical and deconstruction spaces, you've probably seen me or people like me going "yeah? this isn't new, we've been here and liberal and feminist the whole time..." We're pretty different in a lot of core things and evangelicals don't like us at all. We're heretics. 😅🏳️‍🌈

Where we live, Deep South, Methodists are Baptists that can read.

Yeah, the three branches I grew up being aware of were United, Southern, and Free. All call themselves Methodists, all think the other two are dirty heretics.

I mean, in Australia (and a few other places) Methodist’s joined with some Presbyterian churches to become a very woke, very reading church that’s pretty good.
